  • Calvary Assembly of God welcomes new student pastors

    Calvary Assembly of God Pastor Jeff and Gina Schexneider and the congregation of Calvary Assembly of God in Elizabethtown recently welcomed their new Student Ministries pastors, Colton and Emily Vance.

    Pastor Colton and Emily are both graduates of Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, N.D. Mr. Vance was born and raised in North Dakota and his wife is from Ruston, La. They both come to Calvary with a strong music background and have stepped into leading the congregation in praise and worship.

  • Unity Baptist makes Hart honorary deacon

    Unity Baptist Church in Stephensburg will celebrate Bob Hart day at 11 a.m., May 19, by recognizing him as an honorary deacon with a special service and fellowship meal in his honor.

    Hart is being recognized for his faithful service as a member and deacon since 1998. Brother Bob also has been a member of Ovesen Heights Baptist Church in Hodgenville and New Hope Baptist Church in Elizabethtown.

    Hart is a native of Hardin County and is a World War II veteran. He has worked for most of his life in Hardin and LaRue counties.

  • Living Faith lends a hand to students

    Members of Living Faith Baptist Fellowship in Elizabethtown recently visited Tammy Simpson’s second-grade class at Owsley County Elementary School. They brought a bag of books for summer reading for each of the 22 students in the class, as well as other items for the children’s summer enjoyment.

  • Elizabethtown Baptist Church welcomes new pastor

    On April 7, members of Elizabethtown Baptist Church elected Sonny L. Hernandez as senior pastor. Since 1997, he has served in the armed forces, including Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is a Chaplain (Captain) in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

    Hernandez earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He also is a doctoral student at Tennessee Temple University.

    He is married to Shawna and they have one son.

  • Frymire receives leadership award

    Jay Frymire, student pastor at Severns Valley Baptist Church, was presented with the 2013 Lifeway Pastoral Leadership Award during chapel on April 18, at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Lifeway asked that the seminary administration select the most promising Master of Divinity student graduating this year who is preparing to be a Southern Baptist Church pastor. This award is one of the most prestigious awards conferred on seminary graduates.

  • Grace Lutheran assembles personal care kits

    The ladies of Grace Lutheran Church in Vine Grove recently assembled 43 Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief.  Each kit contains a toothbrush, two bars of soap, a set of nail clippers, and a comb wrapped in a towel.  The kits are shared with people around the world who have lost everything.  In the wake of an earthquake, or having fled from violence as their homes were overtaken, the kits are given to provide initial simple comfort that comes with an opportunity to wash, be refreshed, and start anew.

  • Ursuline sisters celebrating religious profession anniversaries

    Fifteen Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph are celebrating anniversaries of religious profession this year, including a native of Vine Grove and another who served there.

    Sister Mary Agnes VonderHaar, a native of Vine Grove, is celebrating 60 years. She received her elementary education at St. Brigid School. She served in ministries in the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Diocese of Owensboro. She serves in a ministry of presence at St. Mary of the Woods, McQuady and St. Anthony Parish, Axtel.

  • Mill Creek Baptist members travel to Guatemala

    On Feb. 6, five Mill Creek Baptist Church members flew to Coatepeque, Guatemala, to help a church, hospital, high school and military base. Pastor T.B. Smith, Victor Reyes, Rick Griffith, Daniel Luce and Thomas Skaggs were there for nine days.
