  • Frymire receives leadership award

    Jay Frymire, student pastor at Severns Valley Baptist Church, was presented with the 2013 Lifeway Pastoral Leadership Award during chapel on April 18, at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Lifeway asked that the seminary administration select the most promising Master of Divinity student graduating this year who is preparing to be a Southern Baptist Church pastor. This award is one of the most prestigious awards conferred on seminary graduates.

  • Grace Lutheran assembles personal care kits

    The ladies of Grace Lutheran Church in Vine Grove recently assembled 43 Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief.  Each kit contains a toothbrush, two bars of soap, a set of nail clippers, and a comb wrapped in a towel.  The kits are shared with people around the world who have lost everything.  In the wake of an earthquake, or having fled from violence as their homes were overtaken, the kits are given to provide initial simple comfort that comes with an opportunity to wash, be refreshed, and start anew.

  • Ursuline sisters celebrating religious profession anniversaries

    Fifteen Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph are celebrating anniversaries of religious profession this year, including a native of Vine Grove and another who served there.

    Sister Mary Agnes VonderHaar, a native of Vine Grove, is celebrating 60 years. She received her elementary education at St. Brigid School. She served in ministries in the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Diocese of Owensboro. She serves in a ministry of presence at St. Mary of the Woods, McQuady and St. Anthony Parish, Axtel.

  • Mill Creek Baptist members travel to Guatemala

    On Feb. 6, five Mill Creek Baptist Church members flew to Coatepeque, Guatemala, to help a church, hospital, high school and military base. Pastor T.B. Smith, Victor Reyes, Rick Griffith, Daniel Luce and Thomas Skaggs were there for nine days.

  • First Christian sets opening day

    First Christian Church of Elizabethtown is targeting June 2 as the opening Sunday in its new facility at 1807 N. Miles St.

    According to Stuart Jones, senior minister, construction is on schedule and the congregation is preparing for the move.

    “The goal when we started pouring footers last May was to complete the building in a year,” Jones said. “We have been blessed with good weather and great workers. We’re right on schedule.”

  • ECTC to host presentation on Eastern Orthodox Church

    The Rev. Alexis Kouri, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in Louisville will present “The Eastern Orthodox Church: An Ancient Faith in Modern Times” at 3 and 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in room 112 James S. Owen Building (John Behen Room) at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. Both sessions are free and open to the public and will include question and answer sessions.

  • Faith Apostolic members finish program

    Faith Apostolic Church in Elizabethtown recently congratulated members for completing the B.R.E.A.D. (Bible Reading Enhances Any Day) Program. The program is designed to help someone to read the entire bible in one year. Their reward was a certificate, gift card and dinner at Ryan’s Steakhouse.

  • Connections Church new member of Kentucky Baptist Convention

    Connections Church was approved to be a member of the Kentucky Baptist Convention on Nov. 13. Connections Church is now fully affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Kentucky Baptist Convention and Severns Valley Association of Baptists. Connections Church has worship on Sundays at the Colvin Community Center at 10:45 a.m. The Senior Pastor is Dr. Jim Shaw, associated pastor is W.L.   • Banner presentation at annual conference

    Savannah Haynes and Leah Linscott recently presented a new banner to Elizabethtown District United Methodist Women during the District Annual celebration held in Hodgenville. The banner will represent the District at the Kentucky Annual Conference each year. It tells the story of the mission work of United Methodist Women. It was designed by the Smitchers (Smiling Stitchers) at Radcliff United Methodist Church. This is a sewing circle made up of girls in fourth grade and above.
