While the detour has been lifted, alternate routes still are being recommended by the Transportation Cabinet’s District 4 highway office for motorists traveling north on Interstate 65.

A semi overturned in the late morning today and was leaking fuel. Initially, it was blocking all three lanes near mile marker 97 north of Elizabethtown. Traffic eventually backed up to Exit 94.

One lane was opened on I-65 by mid-afternoon, which eased the traffic backup.

At present, the left and center lanes are cleared around the wreck site. The right lane remains closed as cleanup and removal  continue into the evening, a state news release said.

Transportation officials recommend motorists consider an alternate route such as Ky. 313, also known as Joe Prather Highway, to enter I-65 at Exit 103 in order to make your way toward Louisville.

Other alternates to reach Louisville include U.S. 31W and U.S. 31E.
