The opening night of the high school basketball season Monday night got off to a rough start for local teams as all three squads dropped their season openers.
Fort Knox lost a girl/boy doubleheader at Caverna.
In the girls’ game, Caverna pulled away for a 50-36 victory, while the Colonels also won the boys’ game to snap a 26-game losing streak with a 67-59 win over the Eagles.
No statistics were available on either game as of deadline.
The Eagles open their home season Thursday against Taylor County (0-1). Gametime on post is 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Eagles return to action Thursday at 6 p.m. at home against Taylor County to open a girl/boy doubleheader at 6 p.m.
In Leitchfield, John Hardin’s Lady Bulldogs opened with a 69-56 setback at Grayson County in the opening game of the Nicki Coleman era.
No stats were available.
The Lady Bulldogs will face Meade County Saturday at 6 p.m. at Elizabethtown High School as part of the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.
Several local teams begin the season tonight as well.
In boys’ action, Central Hardin plays at Nelson County at 7:30 p.m., while defending 5th Region champion John Hardin opens at 8 p.m. at home against Lexington Bryan Station, North Hardin hosts Oldham County at 6 p.m. and Meade County is at Ohio County for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
In girls’ play, LaRue County travels to North Hardin at 7:30 p.m. and Central Hardin is at Nelson County at 6 p.m.
