Two people on a motorcycle were killed Tuesday afternoon in crash on Dixie Highway in Elizabethtown involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle.

Two adults on a motorcycle — a man and woman — died within minutes of each other Tuesday afternoon following a collision with a pickup truck on North Dixie Avenue near Harbor Freight in Elizabethtown.

Elizabethtown Police Department spokesman Chris Denham said one person was dead at the scene and another, who succumbed to injuries, died while being transported by Hardin County EMS ambulance.

The crash happened at approximately 3 p.m.

Denham said the pickup truck was carrying a utility trailer. Tuesday night, given the investigation was in the preliminary stages by the department’s collision reconstruction team, it was unknown what may have caused the crash.

“We’re in the early stages of the investigation,” he said. “We’re not certain when we will release names. The next of kin need to first be notified.”

Denham said he wasn’t certain if either person on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.

The male adult driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.

Traffic was blocked in the southbound lane of Dixie with a motorcycle resting in the far right lane and the pickup truck about 70 feet away.

In addition to EPD and Hardin County EMS responding to the crash scene, the Elizabethtown Fire Department and Hardin County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
