Clay Hinton didn’t get off to the best start Tuesday morning during the opening round of the PNC Bank Kentucky State Amateur Championship.

Through four holes at the 6,853-yard, par-72 Bowling Green Country Club, the former Elizabethtown and current Transylvania University star was 1-over with three pars and a bogey.

He stayed the course though, firing a 7 under over his final 14 holes to finish the day with a 6-under 66 to put him atop the 155-player leader board.
