    Retired Chief Petty Officer Joseph ‘Jack’ Daniel

    Retired Chief Petty Officer Joseph “Jack” Daniel, 82, of Vine Grove, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

    Mr. Daniel was a decorated retired veteran of the Navy and Coast Guard who defended our country in the South Pacific during World War II and later in Korea. He was also retired from Kroger and was a member of Valley View Baptist Church in Vine Grove.

    She was a member of Vine Grove Baptist Church, where she was a nursery attendant for many years.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Ferguson; two sisters, Martha Lee Grimes and Frances Jeanette Atcher; and two brothers, William Birchel Borders and Amos Gilbert Borders.

    James Richard Beard Sr., 67, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Baptist Hospital Northeast.

    A native of Hardin County, he was a retired civil service worker and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eastview.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Rachel Miles Harper; his parents, Alvin and Annie Klinglesmith; a brother, Floyd Harper; a grandson, Jeramey Michael Harper; and a son-in-law, Raymond Ashlock.

    The Hardin County native was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1455 and 4th Degree Monsignor McGee Assembly Knights of Columbus. He was a partner in E’town Laundry.

    Charles Lyle “Chuck” Lehman Jr., 35, of Radcliff, died at his home.

    He graduated from Fort Knox High School in 1991.

    Survivors include his parents, Charles and Linda Lehman of Vine Grove; two brothers, Michael Lehman of Vine Grove and 1st Lt. James Lehman of Fort Benning, Ga.; and two nephews, James Lehman Jr. and Nathaniel Lehman.

    Juanita Vannatter Back

    Juanita Vannatter Back, 81, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at her residence in Clearwater, Fla.

    A native of Akron, Ohio, she resided in Clearwater for the winter.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, P. Dale Back.

    Survivors include four children, Linda Dain of Elizabethtown, Joyce Akin and Deanna Medeiros, both of Clearwater, and Robert Back of Helena, Mont.; a brother, Raymond Vannatter of Elizabethtown; and 16 grandchildren.

    William Arthur Brewer

    William Arthur Brewer, 79, who lived in the Hodgenville area for a number of years, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill.

    He was born in Athertonville on July 19, 1928. He moved to Tennessee, Ill., in 1974 and retired from the Thermogas Co. He served as mayor of Tennessee, Ill., for a number of years. He was a veteran of the Army and a member of the Macomb American Legion Post 6.
