    Curtis Duane Hegstad, 53, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at his home.

    He was employed with Fisher Auto Parts in Elizabethtown and was well loved by many people.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Duane R. Hegstad.

  • Soon Kum Chung

    Soon Kum Chung, 87, of Radcliff, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    She was a member of Full Gospel Kentucky Korean Church in Radcliff.

    She is survived by five children, In Son Chong of Colmar, Pa., Ok Sun Seaman of Radcliff, Kum Cha Kim of Chattanooga, Tenn., In Tae Chong of Lansdale, Pa., and In Soo Chong of Chalfont, Pa.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

  • Pauline ‘Peggy’ Johnson Thompson

    Pauline “Peggy” Johnson Thompson, 92, of Brandenburg, died Monday, April 23, 2012.

    Survivors include three children, Bonnie Wardrip, Linda Farmer and Floyd Thompson.

    The funeral was Thursday at First Baptist Church of Brandenburg with burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.

    Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home in Brandenburg handled arrangements.

  • Gary Tooker

    Gary Tooker, 69, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Missouri, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, at his home.

    Gary played in numerous country music bands in Elizabethtown and other cities.

    He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Tooker; his mother, Alice Tooker; seven sons, Todd, Rodd, Troy, Chad, Shane, Trevor and Jason Tooker; a sister, Dixie Plinski; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Cremation was chosen. There will be a memorial service held at a later date in Illinois.

  • Willis J. Woods

    Willis J. Woods, 93, a resident of Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness. 

    He was born Sept. 6, 1918 in Estill County and was the son of the late John D. and Bertha Stevens Woods. He was a farmer and a retired foreman with the L&N Railroad. He was a member of the Irvine First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and lived in Estill County all of his life. 

  • Martha A. Peerce

    Martha A. Peerce, 70, of Glendale, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Baptist Church of Stephensburg.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Marie Mapes Garland; eight brothers and sisters, Vernon Garland, Janet Garland, Wilma Gent, Ben Garland, John Garland, Wanda Yeary, Virginia Watson and Berne Garland; and one great-grandson, David Raines.

  • Robert Wesley Stiles

    Robert Wesley Stiles, 90, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    He was a native of Cleveland and served in the Army-Air Corps during World War II and retired from the Armor School at Fort Knox.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert and Hattie Lee Hoskinson Stiles.

  • Thomas M. Shemwell

    Thomas M. Shemwell, 80, of Horse Cave, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Horse Cave.

    Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Gass and Rhonda Shelton; and one son, Ricky Thomas Shemwell.

    The funeral was Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home in Munfordville with burial in Horse Cave Cemetery.

    Douglas Allen Stark, 56, of Louisville, formerly of Hodgenville, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at University of Louisville Hospital.

    Survivors include four sisters, Julie Buckner, Arlene Underwood, Sandy Hegman and Becky Thompson; and two brothers, Robert “Bob” Stark and Richard Stark.

    A graveside service with military honors was Tuesday at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.

  • Doris Jean Garmon

    Doris Jean Garmon, 86, of Bowling Green, formerly of Lebanon Junction, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green.

    Survivors include her husband, Joseph R. “Joe” Garmon, and a daughter, Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Tabor.

    The funeral was Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Lebanon Junction. Burial was in Lebanon Junction City Cemetery.

    Billy E. Blanton, 73, of Eastview, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at his home.

    Survivors include his children, Mark (Leslie) Blanton, Tim (Cynthia) Blanton, Jon Blanton and Tony Blanton; one grandson, Corey Blanton; and one granddaughter, Jodi Blanton.

    The funeral was Wednesday at Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with burial in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Clarkson.

    He was born March 31, 1950, and was a self-employed contractor and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hazel Mattingly Merrifield, and a brother, Bobby Powell.

    Odie L. Hayes, 87, of Glasgow, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at her residence.

    She is survived by a son, Sammie Hayes; and three daughters, Anna Bransford, Nancy Driver and Stephanie Hayes.

    The funeral was Monday at Randolph Baptist Church in Metcalfe County. Burial was in the church cemetery.

    William “Whumpy” Crowder Jr., 52, of Radcliff, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    He is survived by his wife, Misty Crowder; two sons, William Crowder III and Baltimore Crowder; and two daughters, Brittnei Houston and Tamika Hopkins.

    The funeral was Monday at Percell & Sons Funeral Home. Burial was in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.

    Jessie Mae Cole, 86, of Radcliff, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Bugg, of Radcliff; four grandchildren, Craig Burns (Latrina), Keith Burns (Kimberly), Nathan Burns and Diane Hawkins; 23 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, John Hawkins; and a sister, Lola Belle Lowe.

    The funeral was Wednesday at Percell & Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Burial was in Elizabethtown Cemetery.

    Randall Dale “Randy” Luckett, 44, of Bardstown, died April 19, 2012, at his residence.

    Survivors include three children, Megan and Lauren Luckett and Gary Luckett; his mother, Frances Luckett; and his fiancée, Elisabet Frances Ratliff.

    The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery.

    Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continues at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, where there is a prayer service at 6 p.m. Sunday.

  • Mabel Gritton Shewmaker

    Mabel Gritton Shewmaker, 93, formerly of Harrodsburg, widow of Reid Shewmaker, died Friday, April 20, 2012, in Elizabethtown.

    Born April 3, 1919, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Crecia Stratton Gritton. She was retired from the Mercer County Health Department and a member of Harrodsburg Christian Church.

    Survivors include a daughter, Susan S. (Billy) Willian; two granddaughters, Angela (Hal) Bender and Emily (Dan) Robbins; and three great-granddaughters, Hailey, Hannah and Harper Robbins, all of Elizabethtown.

  • Charles Edward Martin

    Charles Edward Martin, 62, of Radcliff, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at his home.

    He is survived by two sons, Charles E. Martin Jr. and Thomas Vinson.

    A celebration of his life is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10281 in Vine Grove.
