Harbor Freight Tools, a discount tool and equipment retailer, is expected to be open in early summer along North Dixie Avenue in Elizabethtown, according to a developer.
Work on the 2.08-acre tract next to Aldi started earlier this month with moving dirt and site preparation.
“We are excited about Harbor Freight coming to Elizabethtown,” said Justin Phelps, president of Hogan Real Estate. “They have been looking in the market for some time and been waiting for the ideal location.”
Harbor Freight has more than 900 retail locations nationwide, according to its website, including three in Louisville, and one in Clarksville, Indiana.
Among the items Harbor Freight sells are power tools, air tools, hand tools, parts for vehicles and motorcycles and lawn and garden equipment. It offers more than 7,000 tools and accessories, the website says.
The building will be 15,900-square feet with 77 parking spaces, according to a development plan filed with the Elizabethtown Planning Department. It will have no access off Woodland Drive, which runs behind the property.
“We really like the Elizabethtown market and the city has been great to work with over the years,” Phelps said.
Harbor Freight Tools started in 1977 in Los Angeles as a small, family-owned business with a “commitment to provide working people with great quality tools at the lowest prices,” according to the company website.
