  • Hudson wins national competition

    David Hudson of Radcliff, a local hair stylist at J’s Ebony Beauty Salon in Radcliff, attended the Bronner Brothers International Hair and Beauty Show at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from Aug. 20-23. He won first place in the Most Creative Total Look category and second place in the Grab-bag competition.

  • Focus on Finance: IRAs: Don't get overtaxed

    Question: Generally, are all contributions made to IRAs from pre-tax income?
    Answer: Owners of most traditional IRAs contributed to them with pre-tax income. I.E. they contributed to their IRA only when they could get a taxable income deduction for their yearly contribution. In that case, all distributions from their IRA to themselves or any of their surviving IRA beneficiaries will pay ordinary income tax on their distributions. But what if your IRA includes after-tax (or already taxed) contributions?

  • Cheddar's gears up for opening

    Cheddar’s Casual Café soon will be ready for business on Elizabethtown’s north end.

    The restaurant, developed by Lexington-based Greer Cos., is expected to open its doors Sept. 26, said Lee Greer, president.

    Prior to the official launch, Greer said, there will be invitation-only training sessions, which will gauge food and service quality. Greer said the restaurant is an affordable choice with freshly prepared food options ranging from salads and burgers to steak and ribs.

This grant was given to help offset the cost of purchasing banners and signage for the Via Colori Street Painting Festival, a signature event, which raises funds for the Advocacy & Support Center held Sept. 10.

    The Cecilian Bank is aware of the importance early childhood education plays in the development of children and to support those efforts the bank recently contributed $1,500 toward the Books for Babies program. This program provides each newborn baby at Hardin Memorial Hospital with a very first book for the parents to read to their child.
