Customers packed into E.W. James & Sons Supermarket in Elizabethtown on Wednesday, filling aisles, grocery carts and the parking lot as the life of the store neared an end.

Employees were told Wednesday morning the store would close as soon as its inventory was gone. Customers were greeted with a 50 percent discount on all items.

As news among customers spread, the vast parking lot became a sea of vehicles and loaded carts.

Question: I am feeling stagnant in my career and I am considering going back to school. I would have to juggle work, family and school. Would the difference in salary even be worth it?

Answer: Yes and no, depending on several critical factors. Let me begin by making a disclaimer: I work for Indiana Wesleyan University and I encourage people to go back to school every day. One could say my response is biased; however, my position as an education liaison uniquely qualifies me to answer this question.

Question: As my wife and I get older we are starting to think about living arrangements and the cost involved if/when we are ever unable to live independently. What are our options?

Answer: You or your spouse eventually will become less able to live independently. Knowing your options for alternative living arrangements helps you evaluate your long-term care costs — LTC. Here are some options:

Many landowners and small enterprises, including local governments, routinely obtain gravel from creeks and streams for road maintenance and fill. While this is an inexpensive way to obtain gravel, it also is illegal. Kentucky regulations clearly require anyone (including governments) to obtain a permit from the Department for Natural Resources before removing gravel from a creek. Anyone found doing so without a permit is subject to citation and fines of up to $5,000 per day.
