A Hardin County jury found a West Virginia man guilty this afternoon of two counts of murder and two counts of first-degree assault in a crash crash last October in Radcliff.
Shawn Welsh, 37, of Marion, West Virginia was arrested and charged in an Oct. 20, 2018 two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 31W and Battle Training Road that killed Jacob Barber, 18, and Katarina Peeters, 17, of Elizabethtown.
Two other teens suffered serious injuries in the wreck.
The trial started Wednesday afternoon and testimony ended this morning. Welsh did not testify in his own defense. No defense witnesses were called in the case. A six-page medical report from Hardin Memorial Hospital on Welsh was submitted.
Welsh, who previously had been convicted of felonies in West Virginia, could spend the rest of his life in prison. The jury is expected to recommend a sentence Tuesday.
