Two people were found dead Monday morning on a property in LaRue County and the investigation led police to a separate crime scene in Jefferson County.

Responding to reports of shots fired, troopers from Kentucky State Police found a residence fully engulfed in flames, Trooper Pete Binkley of Post 4 said.

A woman’s body was discovered inside a vehicle on the property. After the home fire was extinguished, a second victim was discovered. Binkley did not say if the second person found was a male or female, or how either victim may have died.

The names of the victims are being withheld until an autopsy by the Kentucky medical examiner’s office can be performed and notification can be made to next of kin.

In a news release issue late Monday, KSP said the investigation led detectives to a residence in the 6000 block of Ashby Lane in Louisville where a second crime scene was being processed by KSP Post 4 and Louisville Metro Police Department.

According to the release, this led to the discovery of a third deceased person. Detectives are investigating this death as a separate but related incident.

KSP received the LaRue County call around 8 a.m. Monday about a complaint of shots fired in the area of River Road which is near Dan Dunn and Gray Road in northwestern LaRue County.

The cause of the fire also has not been released. The investigation is ongoing, Binkley said.

River Road was closed to traffic as officials responded to the fire, but later reopened.
