UPDATE: An autopsy confirmed the child died of strangulation. Sheriff John Ward said the death clearly was not an accident. His obituary identified the 7-year-old as Karsen Lee Miller. The son of Mark and Sharon Miller, he was a student at North Park Elementary School known as a "quirky dresser who loved his bowties."
More information will be available in Sunday’s print edition.
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 7-year-old family member, Hardin County Sheriff John Ward said.
Neither the child nor the juvenile has been identified by authorities.
Ward said the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Hardin County EMS responded shortly after noon Thursday to the Trappers Ridge Court area off Ky. 1600 near Vine Grove. Ward could not provide specific details about what happened nor how the victim died.
He said the boy was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead before 1 p.m.
Ward said the victim and the suspect were “immediate family,” but did not specify their relation.
The teenager was incarcerated in a juvenile detention center but Ward did not identify the location.
No additional charges are anticipated but Ward said the case still is under investigation.
This is the fourth murder charge filed in Hardin County this year.
