A Vine Grove man was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree strangulation.
According to the arrest citation, Vine Grove police responded to a disturbance call about a man yelling and cussing while banging and kicking on a neighbor’s doors. When they arrived on the scene, they were advised Billy Jack Burton II, 40, arrived drunk at the apartment complex when he began to cause the disturbance. The citation said a woman identified as his girlfriend asked him to stop but it got worse.
The citation went on to say Burton tried to kick in his 16-year-old daughter’s door and yelled at his 5-year-old daughter. It was during this time, the citation said, he put his hands around his girlfriend’s neck for about five seconds and stopped when his daughter pleaded for him to stop because she heard the girlfriend say she couldn’t breathe.
Burton was arrested at 11:37 p.m. and lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
First-degree strangulation is a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison, if convicted.
Burton also was charged with menacing and second-degree disorderly conduct.
He is being held on a $10,000 partially secured bond and scheduled to appear Nov. 1 in Hardin District Court.
