Dr. Robert and Rita Robbins are making a significant donation to Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.
The exact amount won’t be announced until Friday, but college officials say the gift is the single largest donation given to the college.
ECTC will hold an event at 2 p.m. Friday to announce the gift to the Dr. Robert E. and Rita H. Robbins Fund of Central Kentucky Community Foundation. The event is in Room 212 of the Regional Post Secondary Center.
Dr. Robbins was a former chief of surgery and chief of staff at Hardin Memorial Hospital. Since retiring, he has continued to be an entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Rita Robbins also worked in the health care industry and has served on ECTC’s board of directors.
The college said in a news release the donation is a “key component to building the future of the college.”
It is earmarked to help pay for a university center, which will bring additional four-year degree options to the Elizabethtown campus.
For a university center, the college would partner with four-year institutions and bring their programs to the college. The plan also involves renovating the campus’ student center, which Pate said was underutilized.
