Woodland Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Association is hosting a Brotherhood BBQ from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2.
PTA president Heidi Brown said the barbecue allows bonding time between boys in grades 1 through 5 and their dads or other significant male role models in their lives.
The event includes food, special guests and a magic show. Raymond L. Owens Jr. is the guest speaker for the event to talk about the relationship between fathers and sons, Brown said.
The Table Top Cuisine is catering the event.
Food includes pulled pork for the dads and hamburgers and hot dogs for the children with sides of mac and cheese and baked beans.
Area businesses helped donate food and door prizes for the event.
Brown hopes this event is an example of what PTAs can do for schools who currently do not have a PTA.
The barbecue is $5 a ticket and proceeds go toward adding more playground equipment to the school. Adrian Bambini gave a sizable donation towards the playground last year, she said. This money goes toward adding to what already has been built.
For now, ticket sales only are for the families of Woodland students. If all tickets are not sold the week before the event, sales will be open to the public.
