Local school districts are considering how to make up Wednesday’s snow day.
School boards for Hardin County Schools and Elizabethtown Independent Schools already have approved amended school calendars for the current school year and set graduation dates. Any calendar changes require board approval.
Hardin County Schools spokesman John Wright said superintendent Teresa Morgan is working on a recommendation to take to the Board of Education.
Hardin County school board’s next scheduled meeting is April 19.
Michelle Motley, spokeswoman for Elizabethtown Independent Schools, said in an email, calendar changes most likely will be finalized at the board’s April 16 meeting. She said there’s no definite word on a makeup day.
Before Wednesday, Hardin County Schools’ last day was June 1. Elizabethtown Independent’s last day was May 31. Both districts have missed almost two weeks of school this year.
The districts do have some flexibility in their calendars before adding days to the end of the school year. Both are scheduled to be off May 4.
School officials have said in previous board meetings finding substitute teachers for May 4, Kentucky Oaks Day, can be difficult.
Make-up dates for HCS are June 4-12, according to HCS’s district calendar. EIS as slated June 1 and June 4-6 as make-up days, according to their district calendar.
Districts also are closed May 22 for Election Day.
At their meetings this month, both boards approved graduation dates.
Elizabethtown High School’s graduation is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 2.
John Hardin High School’s graduation is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 1, Central Hardin High School’s graduation is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 2, and North Hardin High School’s graduation is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 2.
