  • Local pilot, flight instructor honored by National Weather Service

    The National Weather Service on Wednesday honored two local men for their service during a rash of tornadoes in April, including one that heavily damaged the Hardin County Fairgrounds near Glendale.

    Pilot Roy Cantrall and flight instructor Glen Norman were presented with a plaque at Addington Field in Elizabethtown for their aerial photography, capturing images of damage from tornadoes that struck portions of Hardin and Grayson counties, said Brian Schoettmer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Louisville.

  • Police investigating robbery at Radcliff T-Mart

    The Radcliff Police Department is investigating a robbery at T-Mart at 1804 S. Dixie Blvd.

    According to an RPD news release, police received a call at 12:30 a.m. last Wednesday reporting a robbery at the T-Mart. A store clerk told police a white male, 6 foot and about 230 pounds, brandished a small, black semi-automatic pistol and demanded cash, according to the release.

    The suspect was wearing a black T-shirt, black sweatpants, white shoes and a dark bandana that covered the top of his head, police said.

  • Cardboard Nation encourages participants to reflect on homelessness

    Warm Blessings invites Hardin Countians to spend a night in a cardboard box -- come rain or shine -- for its annual “homeless experience,” Cardboard Nation.

    Registration for Cardboard Nation begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the Fire and Rescue Training Station at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, said Linda Funk, chairwoman of the executive board of Warm Blessings.

  • Accused of rape, Dunnivant waives preliminary hearing

    A registered sex offender living in Elizabethtown waived a preliminary hearing on rape and incest charges Wednesday in Hardin District Court.

    David Dunnivant, 45, is accused of forcibly raping an adult female relative, according to Kentucky State Police. Because Dunnivant is considered a danger to others, Judge Kimberly Shumate said she would keep his bond at $100,000 cash. He is lodged at the Hardin County Detention Center.

    The Fort Knox commander has a sense of closure as the post finished the arduous task of the Base Realignment and Closure Initiative ahead of the Sept. 15 deadline.

    The official arrival ceremony of the 100th Division last weekend marked the completion of BRAC, a multi-year mix of consolidations and closures mandated by Congress in 2005.

  • Former marathon runner walks 8.9 miles at 89

    Omar McGrew was hard to miss Tuesday, proceeding step by step along Ring Road with a miniature U.S. flag waving from the top of his hat and patches from marathons he has run stitched onto his blue jogging suit.

    The Elizabethtown resident slightly hunched his shoulders and moved steadily along with his walking partner, Cheryl Saults of Elizabethtown.

    The pair occasionally passed signs on the way wishing McGrew a happy birthday and proclaiming the goal the man was accomplishing, walking 8.9 miles on his 89th birthday.

  • One date, one judge, two trials

    The high-profile court cases of Conner Galenski and Jeffrey M. Farmer and Christin Nicole Dague are set to go to jury trial Oct. 10.

    However, with Judge Kelly Mark Easton and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Heather Paynter tied to both cases, one will have to wait.

    “We’ll have to decide which trial will go first,” Easton said Tuesday during a pre-trial conference.
