School’s not even in session, but fall sports and other activities already are heating up, quite literally.
Most athletic teams and bands have had to cancel, alter or reschedule practices because of frequent heat advisories this summer. According to Mark Adams of the National Weather Service, July had only two days when the high was below 85.
Although he doesn’t record heat indexes regularly, he has noted several days with heat indexes above 100 degrees and has seen it as high as 115 degrees.
