Barrett Cummings of Elizabethtown seemed to know at times something was wrong with him.
The man who had been a local resident since the 1960s, went into the U.S. Air Force at 17 years old, worked as a firefighter for 21 years and helped build about 40 area houses was losing himself.
In 2009, at 82 years old, Cummings died from Alzheimer’s disease.
The disease is the most common form of dementia and has no cure. Symptoms can include difficulty remembering recent events, confusion, mood swings, trouble with language and long-term memory loss.
