During an early performance, Michael Cleveland took the stage with his fiddle in hand, seemingly unencumbered by distraction.
In an unprecedented disaster, Cleveland dropped the instrument on the ground before striking a note.
“The fingerboard flew right off the fiddle,” he said of the damage. “It was totaled.”
Another contestant showed generosity toward Cleveland, loaning him the use of his fiddle for the performance. Cleveland would go on to win the contest and defeat the kindhearted musician.
