  • Meadow View student to attend summer conference

    The skill-building will continue into summer for one Meadow View Elementary School student.

    Eugena Kim, a fifth-grader, will be travel to Washington, D.C., this summer to take part in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference, along with more than 250 other students from across the country.

    The conference is one of the programs available through the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, which works to improve leadership skills in young people and allows them to meet high-ranking leaders in the nation’s capital.

  • Glendale’s Spring Fest draws fun and funds

    It was an appropriately warm and sunny day for Glendale’s celebration of the spring season.

    Glendale Spring Fest provided a good time and helped a good cause on Saturday, with vendors, food and musical entertainment and the crowds returning the favor by raising money for a cancer-stricken child in the community.

  • Owner, city disagree on home demolition

    An Elizabethtown property owner said he plans to take the city to court for demolishing a house he had been renovating.

    City officials said the structure was unsafe and the owner received notice before Tuesday's demolition.

    Cecil Cundiff, who lives in another house he is working on in Lexington, said he learned that his house was demolished when a friend called and told him.

    “I was totally surprised when they did that,” he said.

  • Weather brings out mosquitoes

    The last seven weeks have brought more than 21 inches of rain to Hardin County, and with it, plenty of annoying mosquitoes, local officials say.

    Mosquitoes are out in higher numbers than usual because of heavy rains and standing water.
    Officials are trying to keep the population under control, but need some dry days for the most effective treatments.

  • Buggeland, drug offenses populate April indictments

    Erik John Buggeland, the man accused of killing his parents in September, was indicted on two counts of murder, among other charges, in April, along with about 40 other individuals. Most of the other charges were drug offenses, mostly dealing with methamphetamine. Several other indictments were related to theft or robbery. The indictments are as follows.

    • Jeremiah A. Geary, 22, first-degree assault.

  • Community gives a big 'hooray' for heroes

    The Radcliff community gathered Saturday to honor the hard work of those who’ve been called to serve.

    The sun welcomed the public and military members to the sixth annual Hooray for Heroes, and hot blacktop underneath everyone’s feet made it the first steamy festival of the year.

    The event, held at Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff, honors servicemen and women and gives them a fun family activity. Booths, food vendors and games lined the parking lot of the church.

  • Gold rush? Debt easing proposal calls for selling bullion

    In these tough economic times, many families likely have considered selling a treasured heirloom to pay down debt.

    The U.S. government, which hit its debt limit last week, faces a similar question: Should it sell the gold next to the Fort Knox Army post to help offset the deficit?

    Ron Utt, a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, recently told The Washington Post: “It’s just sort of sitting there.”
