  • Fire damages Radcliff home

    An early morning fire damaged a Radcliff home Wednesday and investigators later in the day were trying to pinpoint the cause.

    Police say they found a meth lab in the residence on Vine Street. The Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force was called to the scene as well as fire departments from Radcliff and Vine Grove.

    Radcliff Police spokesman Bryce Shumate said while the home appeared to be lived in, nobody was home when fire trucks arrived on the scene.

  • E’town council approves Haycraft grant application

    The city of Elizabethtown is awaiting word on a grant application that will be used to repair a city neighborhood.

    Elizabethtown City Council approved Monday the application for a Community Development Block Grant through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The council plans to use any money received through the grant to continue the renovation of the Haycraft neighborhood near downtown Elizabethtown.

  • Motz Group picked to do turf work at sports park

    Elizabethtown City Council selected The Motz Group Inc. to install synthetic turf on two fields at the Elizabethtown Sports Park.

    The council approved a bid Monday from The Motz Group, which at $1.2 million was the lowest bid received.
    The Motz Group is based in Cincinnati.

  • Damaged Boy Lincoln sent off for repairs

    The Boy Lincoln Statue, damaged when it was struck by a car April 10, has returned to its California birthplace for repairs.

    The sculpture, which depicts Abraham Lincoln at age 7 standing with his dog, Honey, was dedicated in May 2008 as part of the Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration. It was knocked from its base by a 2001 Ford Taurus that entered the Lincoln Square traffic island during early morning hours.

  • Lake open to outboard motors during June

    Freeman Lake Park could see new visitors in June thanks to a decision by the city of Elizabethtown.

    Boats with outboard motors will be allowed on Freeman Lake in June as a concession to boaters who have requested the privilege.

    The decision was included on the agenda for Monday’s Elizabethtown City Council meeting as an informational item.

    Councilman Ron Thomas said residents have questioned over the years the city’s decision to allow wakeboarding and water skiing events on the lake while forbidding certain kinds of boats on the reservoir.

  • Police find missing teen

    Police and fire officials in Vine Grove and Radcliff are searching for a 15-year-old male who has been missing since Tuesday night.

    Shawn McLuckie was last seen at his home on Vineland Avenue in Vine Grove at around 8:30 p.m. Police say he may be distraught.

    McLuckie is a white male and is 5-foot-6 and 123 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair that is cut short, military style. He was last seen wearing a gray jacket.

  • Primary 2011: Hardin County votes tallied

    Hardin County Republicans followed the Tea Party recommendations in Tuesday's primary.

    The ticket of Phil Moffett and Mike Harmon won the gubernatorial primary locally with 1,558 votes. Senate President David L. Williams and Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer, who are holding a lead statewide, picked up 1,179 votes here. The remaining 300 GOP voters went with Bobbie Holsclaw and running mate Bill Vermillion.

  • Area residents react to primary results

    Republican gubernatorial candidate Phil Moffett carried Hardin County largely because of about 30 people quietly following a projector-screen television at 3-Putt Willie’s Restaurant in Elizabethtown.

    Members of the Central Kentucky Tea Party Patriots said they rallied around Moffett after hearing him speak and agreeing with his values. They also worked hard to get word out about him, despite a smaller campaign budget than gubernatorial candidate David Williams, who won the GOP nomination statewide.

  • Slight decrease in revenues in EIS tentative budget

    Elizabethtown Independent Schools is expecting slightly smaller revenues for the next school year than budgeted for this year.

    Elizabethtown Independent Schools’ tentative budget for the 2011-12 school year shows almost $23 million in projected revenues across all of its funds, which is a slight dip from the budgeted amount of $23.3 million for the 2010-11 year.
