  • Jane Beshear tours USA Cares headquarters

    Kentucky’s first lady received a royal tour Friday when she arrived at USA Cares’ headquarters in Radcliff.

    Joined by Radcliff Mayor J.J. Duvall, USA Cares founder Roger Stradley and his staff gave Jane Beshear a glimpse into the mission of the local military charity from its start in 2003 to its national prominence today. Beshear was in town visiting several sites in and around Fort Knox.

  • Tunnel to Towers runs to honor fallen 9/11 firefighters

    USA Cares plans to honor the heroics of a Brooklyn firefighter on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

    The Radcliff-based military support charity has partnered with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run Foundation and Blue Star Mothers of America to host Tunnel to Tower runs across the United States on Sept. 11. The goal is to send a firefighter from each run to New York City on Sept. 25 to participate in the Stephen Tunnel to Towers Run.

  • Train stalls on Tunnel Hill Road

    Firefighters use an extinguisher Saturday to battle a fire in the engine of a CSX diesel locomotive at a crossing on Tunnel Hill Road. Capt. Ben Green of the Central Hardin Fire Department said there were no injuries and said a rod blew through the side of the engine block near the fuel tank.

  • Man accused in shooting called 911, said he didn't know victim

    A police citation says a man charged with murder in Thursday afternoon’s fatal shooting called 911 to notify police.

    A 36-year-old woman was shot and killed in her home on Bardstown Road at approximately 4:45 p.m. Thursday. Kentucky State Police arrested her next-door neighbor, Joshua Norman Hines, 24, and lodged him in the Hardin County Detention Center.

    The state police citation filed at the jail says Hines “called 911 and advised dispatch that he had shot his neighbor and believed she was dead.”

    The Lincoln Museum on the square in Hodgenville is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. A fee of $3 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and military and $1.50 for children from age 5 to 12  is charged to tour the museum. Group tours are available by appointment. The museum also conducts bus tours for school children and adult tour groups.

    Insight Communications customers tuning to Channel 25 expecting to find HCEC’s telecasts will be disappointed this weekend.

    A technical problem is interrupting the system’s signal. HCEC Director Gina Ryan said service should be restored Monday.
    HCEC is a community access programming outlet operated by the Hardin County Schools’ instructional services department and carried by local cable services.
