  • Man accused in shooting called 911, said he didn't know victim

    A police citation says a man charged with murder in Thursday afternoon’s fatal shooting called 911 to notify police.

    A 36-year-old woman was shot and killed in her home on Bardstown Road at approximately 4:45 p.m. Thursday. Kentucky State Police arrested her next-door neighbor, Joshua Norman Hines, 24, and lodged him in the Hardin County Detention Center.

    The state police citation filed at the jail says Hines “called 911 and advised dispatch that he had shot his neighbor and believed she was dead.”

    The Lincoln Museum on the square in Hodgenville is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. A fee of $3 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and military and $1.50 for children from age 5 to 12  is charged to tour the museum. Group tours are available by appointment. The museum also conducts bus tours for school children and adult tour groups.

    Insight Communications customers tuning to Channel 25 expecting to find HCEC’s telecasts will be disappointed this weekend.

    A technical problem is interrupting the system’s signal. HCEC Director Gina Ryan said service should be restored Monday.
    HCEC is a community access programming outlet operated by the Hardin County Schools’ instructional services department and carried by local cable services.

  • E’town man indicted for smuggling drugs into Franklin County jail

    An Elizabethtown man serving time in Franklin County Regional Jail has been indicted for allegedly smuggling marijuana and Xanax into the jail.

    Deketric Stephenson, 23, was found with the drugs, a cell phone and about $40 March 29 after jail officials searched his cell, Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland said.

    Stephenson apparently smuggled the contraband into jail while on work release with other inmates on a road crew, Cleveland said.

  • Tim Moore chastises House inaction on Medicaid vetoes

    State Rep. Tim Moore said he is disappointed with the House’s failure to join the Senate in returning to Frankfort last week to review a series of line-item vetoes proposed by Gov. Steve Beshear on a compromise budget plan passed by the General Assembly.

    Moore, an Elizabethtown Republican, was one of few members of the House who returned to the session to consider overriding a series of vetoes considered by the governor. The House adjourned for the year March 24 and did not return when the Senate reconvened.

  • USA Cares to offer aid if soldier pay disrupted

    With the potential for a federal government shutdown looming and the possible disruption of military pay, a local charity is urging military families to take precautions in advance.

    Officials with Radcliff-based USA Cares said Thursday the organization is ready to help with unmet needs that arise for military families because of a shutdown. Executive Director Bill Nelson said the organization is open to starting an emergency fund for essentials such as food and transportation costs.
