  • Hardin ranked 14th, 19th in county health rankings

    Hardin County generally is one of the healthiest counties in Kentucky, according to recently released data.

    Hardin County was ranked 14th in health outcomes and 19th in health factors out of 120 Kentucky counties in a report released by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The report ranks counties in Kentucky and almost every county in the country.

  • National Ladies Auxiliary VFW president to visit area

    The national president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW will spend part of Monday in Vine Grove.
    Cortina Barnes will speak at VFW Post 10281 on Briggs Lane in Vine Grove, take part in a brunch and visit Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central as part of her stay, said Connie Burke of the Post 10281 Ladies Auxiliary.
    “It’s a big deal for us,’’ Burke said.
    She said this is the second visit by a national VFW president in the last few years to Vine Grove.

  • No written driving tests today

    There will be no written driving test offer today at the Hardin Circuit Clerk's office, but road tests will be scheduled.

    Written tests will be held Friday from 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Road tests Friday will be scheduled in the afternoon. Call 766-5002 to schedule a road test.
     

  • Safety checks planned for county

    Traffic safety evaluations by the sheriff’s office will be held on Hardin County roadways over the next few months.

    According to a Hardin County Sheriff’s Office news release, the safety checks most often will be held at night when impaired driving traffic is at a maximum. Officers also may initiate checkpoints at other times and places during the month.

    The primary focus of the safety checks is to reduce the incidence of drug- and alcohol-impaired drivers on roadways. Officers also will check for child safety seats and seat belt use.

    Dennis Johnson’s transition to Hardin Memorial Hospital has been anything but dull.

    Two months into his new position, Johnson said the experience is comparable to “drinking water from a fire hose” in terms of intensity and breadth of processes to absorb.

    Johnson was appointed president and chief executive officer by Baptist Healthcare System, which manages HMH, and took over in February after former HMH President and CEO David Gray was promoted to president of Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.

  • Prosecution finishes case with man victim was seeing, Burke coworkers

    Prosecutors finished their case against Brent Burke at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the defense began its case by trying to get a witness testimony approved and briefly questioning a few witnesses.

    Burke is on trial for the death of his estranged wife, Tracy Burke, and her former mother-in-law, Karen Comer, which occurred in September 2007 in Comer’s home in Rineyville. This is the fourth attempt at a trial.

  • New Highland helping student, family through fundraiser

    New Highland Elementary School is hoping pizza and games can bring some good luck to one of its own.

    Staff at New Highland is hosting a fundraiser for first-grader Alex Frahler from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Gatti’s Pizza to raise money for his upcoming surgery. Alex, 7, will be undergoing a risky surgery to have a cochlear implant removed because of improper placement of the device.

    The electronic device allows Alex to have some hearing, though Alex uses American Sign Language as his main form of communication.

  • Radcliff celebrates construction of new restaurant

    A new restaurant is being constructed in the fast developing area near Ky. 313's intersection with South Dixie Boulevard in Radcliff.

    A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon for Colton's Steak House and Grill. The 240-seat restaurant will be on a lot n front of the new Hampton Inn and Suites. Mayor J.J. Duvall, members of Radcliff City Council, Hardin Fiscal Court and other city staff members joined representatives of the restaurant and construction company for the event.
