An Elizabethtown man was rescued Tuesday morning from a structure fire at his Princeton Drive residence.

An unidentified Elizabethtown man was rescued Tuesday afternoon by Elizabethtown Fire Department personnel after a fire caused considerable damage to his Princeton Drive residence.

According to EFD Deputy Chief Everett Roberts, emergency personnel arrived at the scene around 11 a.m. Tuesday. A rapid scene assessment indicated that a person was trapped in the building and crew members entered the structure to rescue the man.

Elizabethtown Fire Department and Hardin County Emergency Medical Service personnel performed immediate resuscitative efforts on the man and he was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital. He later was taken to University Hospital in Louisville. Roberts said late Tuesday afternoon the man’s condition was unknown.

The fire began in the garage of the structure and appears to be accidental, according to Roberts. The official cause remains undetermined.

Nolin RECC, the Elizabethtown Gas Department and Red Cross personnel also assisted at the scene.
