The annual Household Hazardous Waste and Prescription Drug Disposal Day is set for this weekend.

The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Metalsa, 750 N. Black Branch Road in Elizabethtown.

It started in 2008 as a free way for residents to appropriately rid their homes of household chemicals and wastes.

Organizers accept a multitude of items from pool chemicals and batteries to household cleaners and insecticides.

No commercial waste is accepted. Radioactive waste, smoke detectors, gas cylinders, flares, explosives and fire extinguishers are prohibited.

The collection day is open only to Hardin County residents.

A complete list of items being accepted can be found on the Hardin County Government website at www.hcky.org.
