All schools in the Elizabethtown district were placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution Wednesday after a home break-in near one of the buidlings, Superintendent Jon Ballard said.

After being contacted by the Elizabethtown Police Department about the break-in, Ballard said the lockdown began around 7:50 a.m. as the school day began. It was lifted later in the day.

During a soft lockdown, students are not permitted to go outside or roam the hallways and there is more scrutiny applied to who enters the school.

Chris Denham, public information officer for EPD, said he could not yet release any information about the break-in as of Wednesday afternoon.
