Two people were airlifted Thursday night to a Louisville hospital after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Rogersville Road and Ky. 313, Joe Prather Highway.

According to a preliminary investigation into the crash that happened shortly before 8 p.m., Vine Grove Police Department Chief Kenny Mattingly said it appears a vehicle ran a red light on Prather and collided with a vehicle crossing from Rogersville Road.

The two people transported by Air Methods from the crash scene both were in the vehicle driving on Joe Prather. In all, there were nine people in both vehicles, including five in the vehicle traveling on Joe Prather. Mattingly said the transported were adults and were “critically injured’’ in the crash.

He said they had to be extricated from the vehicle.

In addition to the VGPD and Air Methods, Vine Grove and Radcliff fire departments and Hardin County EMS also responded to the scene.

Mattingly said a man in the struck vehicle was seeking treatment on his own for a rib injury.

The crash remains under investigation. Mattingly said the ongoing road work on Joe Prather Highway played no role in the crash.

Traffic was backed up for a period of time and then rerouted.
