WKU’s ROTC plans 10th Eric D. Yates Run

Photo courtesy of WKU ROTC The service and memory of Eric D. Yates, a 2003 John Hardin High School graduate killed in 2010 while serving with a battalion that was part of U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division, is honored by an annual memorial run held in Warren County.

The Western Kentucky Uni­versity Army ROTC program will host the 10th annual Eric D. Yates Memorial Run on Sept. 18.

Yates, a 2008 WKU graduate and 2003 graduate of John Hardin High School from Rineyville, was killed in action Sept. 17, 2010, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol in Afghanistan.

Yates served in the Army’s 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell.

The 5K run and two-mile walk will begin at 6 p.m. at Chaney’s Dairy Barn at 9191 Nash­ville Road on U.S. 31W in southern Warren County.

Yates was the first John Hardin graduate honored as a Hardin County Schools Distinguished Alumnus recipient in 2011.

Proceeds from the event benefit the 1LT Eric Yates Memorial Scholarship Fund.

On-site registration begins at 5 p.m. Sept. 18. Advance registration includes an event T-shirt.
