  • 'Big-hearted bikers' make Toys for Tots run happen

    Thanks to hundreds of “big-hearted bikers,” the 18th annual Hardin County Toys for Tots Run rides up U.S. 31W again in a few weeks.

    The Nov. 23 event, which starts at Staples in Elizabethtown, raises money to put Christmas gifts under the trees of needy children. Money is collected through gift donations and raised from sponsors and bikers.

  • Indictments include criminal abuse of a minor

    An Elizabethtown woman has been directly indicted by a Hardin County grand jury for abuse of a child.

    Amanda M. Banks, 33, has been indicted on charges of first-degree criminal abuse of a victim under 12.

    The offense is a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison.

  • ECTC tobacco ban goes into effect Jan. 1

    Many Elizabethtown Com­munity and Technical College students are uneasy with the college’s policy of going tobacco-free in less than seven weeks.

    On Jan. 1, the campus will join more than 700 colleges and universities with smoke- or tobacco-free policies, including the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville.

  • Gilead Baptist Church fills gift boxes for children in need

    Amid the smell of homemade chili and fresh-baked desserts in Gilead Baptist Church’s fellowship hall Sunday evening, a flurry of activity took place on nearby tables as church members packed 200 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child to be delivered to other parts of the world next month.

    It is with utmost honor and appreciation for all they have done to keep our country the land of the free and land of the brave that we remember our veterans, this year’s Veterans Day. It is this truth that stands out in my mind that the only ones who gave their lives that we might live is Jesus Christ and our Service men/women.

  • Browns celebrate 50th anniversary

    Robert W. and Linda J. Henderson Brown of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 50th anniversary Nov. 29, 2014, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Elizabethtown.
    They were married Nov. 14, 1964, at Vinson Memorial Christian Church.
    They have three children, Lisa Vaught of Glasgow, David Brown of Bardstown and Jimmy Brown of Sellersburg, Indiana; and seven grandchildren.

    KENTUCKY WEATHER.   Leaves are everywhere and they are still falling. When I was little I would go to aunt Stacey’s house and she’d rake and pile the leaves and then I’d jump in. It was so much fun. Oh the good times she and I shared on the farm.
