  • Fourth of July weekend prompts reminders of firework safety

    Sparklers, bottle rockets and other explosives are commonly associated with traditional Fourth of July weekend celebrations, but local fire departments want residents to know they should use them responsibly.

    “They are an explosive device, so if you’re dealing with a fire cracker or any type of popping firework, there is a danger of injury to skin and soft tissue,” said Elizabethtown Fire Department administrative chief Mark Malone.

  • Tourism bureau approves pair of proposals to promote area

    The Elizabethtown Tourism & Convention Bureau’s commission approved two proposals Wednesday morning it believes will garner more interest in Elizabethtown, thereby leading to more visitor traffic.

    The commission approved up to $15,000 to pave a portion of a Greenspace trail near Buffalo Lake between Executive Drive and Commerce Drive.

    Mary Sprague, one of Greenspace’s founders, said estimates received by the agency place the cost of the paving between $12,000 and $15,000 and would constitute between one-third of a mile and a half mile.

  • Police chase leads to numerous charges

    An Elizabethtown woman wanted for selling a ring for less than $200 without permission now faces 16 additional charges including five felony counts after a police chase Monday afternoon in Glendale.

    Speeds reached about 80 mph as Melissa L. Cecil, 40, tried to elude police after she was stopped for failing to wear a seatbelt.

    Elizabethtown native Donald Clyde Storm II was appointed June 9 to the top financial spot at E! and Esquire Networks by NBCUniversal on June 9. At just, Storm, 32, is the youngest to ever hold the title of chief financial officer for the company.

    “I’m where I thought I would be, but just here a lot sooner than I thought I would be,” he said.
