  • Lane closures set for 31W at Miles Street intersection

    ELIZABETHTOWN — Road work will reduce lanes on U.S. 31W Tuesday night at the intersection of Miles Street in Elizabethtown.

    The left inside lane of north and southbound Dixie Avenue will be closed at the Miles Street intersection from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday, and those nearing Dixie on Miles Street will only be able to turn right.

    Rosie Lee Harned, 96, died Thursday, June 24, 2010. The funeral is at 11 a.m. today at Stephensburg United Methodist Church with burial in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

  • County government receives waste grants

    HARDIN COUNTY — Hardin County Government has been awarded two awards to aid in its recycling and household waste disposal efforts.

    Gov. Steve Beshear announced last week the acquisition of $3.5 million in grants through the Kentucky Pride fund, which is administered by the Energy and Environment Cabinet's Division of Waste. Hardin County was awarded $19,718 in recycling grants and $20,600. The grant requires a 25 percent match.

    Every LaRue County High School student is expected to have a laptop computer next year after the LaRue County School Board voted to pass the Laptop Initiative last week.

    The Laptop Initiative failed to pass in March after Superintendent Sam Sanders requested a unanimous vote “to bring the board together.” Four board members voted in favor with Norbert Skees casting a “no” vote.
