HARDIN COUNTY — While the nation’s unemployment rate jumped in October, local and statewide jobless figures have remained fairly steady during the past few months.

But the numbers — including a .3 percent drop last month in the state figure — do not necessarily mean job prospects have improved.

RADCLIFF — During better economic times, 40,000 pounds of food can go a long way.

With a slumping economy and a rash of job layoffs in the Hardin County area recently, members of the Gloryland Harvest congregation will see how far 40,000 pounds can now go.

This will be the fourth time the last few years the church has distributed a tractor-trailer’s worth of food to those in need.

HARDIN COUNTY — While families gather and celebrations abound, some who have lost a loved one may be hurting and need help to make it through the holidays.

Wanda Dobbins works as a grief counselor with Hosparus, Hospice of Central Kentucky and helps people cope with loss throughout the year.

“Holidays can be especially difficult following the death of someone close,” Dobbins said.
