    SUMMER. Summer officially is here.

    STATE CHAMPS. The Central Hardin High School baseball team won the Kentucky State Title in Lexington last weekend. They defeated Mercer Co. 21-2. This is the school’s first state title in the school’s history. Congratulations guys.

    FATHER’S DAY. My daddy is a great cook. He had Cory and I over for supper on June 18. He and sissy came over on Father’s Day. We played scrabble, ate and laughed a lot.

    We have had a lot of good rain, which has given all the plants new life, for which we are very thankful. Thus far we haven’t experienced any severe storms or tornados as other areas in the neighboring counties have. Hopefully we won’t. My heart goes out to those who have lost their homes, or had them severely damaged.

    ORGANIZATION NEWS. At the Hardin County Homemakers 71st annual meeting May 24, the Goldenrod Homemakers Club was winner of the best scrapbook presented by a medium club. Nadine Bush compiled the scrapbook. Elaine Conder was a reading award winner and received awards, along with other club members, for 100 percent attendance and volunteer service hours.

    ANNIVERSARY. Happy belated 44th anniversary to Jerry and Sarah Staples on June 15.

  • Highbaughs announce birth of Maryah Lynn

    Mark and Melissa Highbaugh of Upton announce the birth of a daughter, Maryah Lynn Highbaugh, on June 13, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    She has three siblings, Shelby and Cassidy Highbaugh of Rineyville and Sydney Calloway of Upton.

    Grandparents are Billy and Vickie Gray of Elizabethtown and Cathy Highbaugh of Benton.

    Great-grandparents are Jackie and Margaret Cox of Elizabethtown and Mary Wright of Cecilia.

  • Siblings welcome Audrey Jean

    Jacob and Jaina announce the birth of a sister, Audrey Jean Tucker on June 1, 2011, at Norton Downtown in Louisville. She weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 inches long. 

    Parents are Shane and Jodee Tucker of Elizabethtown.

    Seth and Deborah Gamblin of Sonora announce the birth of a daughter, Abigail Grace Gamblin, on May 3, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Clint and Tammy Linder of Eastview. Paternal grandparents are Ronald and Lori Gamblin of Elizabethtown.

    Great-grandparents are Gary and Donna Linder of Eastview, Richard and Judy Waltz of Eastview, the late James and Ramona Young, Wilma Noffsinger of Crofton and the late Carl Gamblin.

  • Raines celebrate 85th birthdays

    Frank and June Thornberry-Raine will celebrate their 85th birthdays with an open house in their honor from 1 to 3 p.m. July 10, 2011. at Grace Heartland Church Family Life Center, 801 Pear Orchard Road, Elizabethtown, given by their children.

    They request no gifts, please. A family reunion will follow the birthday celebration.
