  • More than $500K in stimulus money unclaimed

    FRANKFORT – Of the 67,128 Kentuckians potentially due a federal economic stimulus check, more than 1,200 are residents of Hardin County who have not yet filed a 2007 federal income tax return.

    According to the Center of Budget and Policy Priorities, about $20 million of the $152 billion economic stimulus that went into effect earlier this year remains unclaimed by Kentucky taxpayers

    ELIZABETHTOWN — U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao stumped for her husband, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, here Tuesday and praised last week’s bailout of U.S. financial institutions.

    The visit was part of her 2008 Women to Women Tour. McConnell, who is the top Senate Republican, is in a tight battle with Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford.

  • 'Hello Kitty' bandit suspect jailed

    ELIZABETHTOWN

    The man suspected of being the “Hello Kitty bandit” after a June 3 robbery of Ginny’s Hallmark on West Poplar Street, was arrested and jailed Monday.

    According to Elizabethtown PD spokesman Virgil Willoughby, police arrested and jailed 19-year-old Joshua Thomas Brewer of Constantine and charged him with the robbery.

    Armed with a machete-style blade and a Hello Kitty bandage on his face, police say it was Brewer who entered the Hallmark store and demanded cash from the clerk.

    No one was injured in the incident.

    Daniel L. ‘Danny’ Aubrey

    Daniel L. “Danny” Aubrey, 82, of Hodgenville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.

    He was a deacon at Lincoln Memorial Baptist Church in Hodgenville where he served as church sexton for the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery for several years; he was a retired self-employed contractor, and a 59-year member of B.R. Young Masonic Lodge No. 132 F&AM in Hodgenville.
