  • Teacher's aide charged with sex crimes against child

    ELIZABETHTOWN – Police arrested and jailed a Radcliff elementary school instructional aide Thursday morning, charging him with sex crimes against a 4-year-old girl.

    Gary Lou Martin, a 59-year-old Elizabethtown resident, is charged with two counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, with all four counts enhanced to a greater felony because of the alleged victim’s age.

    Shirley Jane Mahoney Shirley Jane Mahoney, 67, of New Haven, formerly of Lebanon Junction, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009. Survivors include a daughter, Tellie Mahoney; and a son, John Mahoney. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of God of Prophecy in Lebanon Junction with burial in Lebanon Junction City Cemetery. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 9 a.m.

  • Fatal wreck under investigation

    VINE GROVE — Meade County Sheriff William “Butch” Kerrick says a cause to Saturday night's fatal wreck on Jennings Knob Road remains undetermined.

    A press release Tuesday states Vine Grove resident Henry L. Fugate, 44, was heading westbound in a 2007 Mustang GT, nearing a curve at Valley Court, when it left the pavement and hit a tree at 11:30 p.m.

    The driver’s side of the Mustang took the full impact of the tree, according to Meade County Sheriff's Department.

  • Morgenthal resigns

    ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown Independent Schools board accepted the resignation of Jayne Risen Morgenthal, superintendent of Elizabethtown Independent Schools, at a specially-called board meeting Thursday evening.

    The board accepted Morgenthal’s resignation with a unanimous vote. Members Tony Kuklinski and Dianne Cooper voted via phone.
