    Otis Brashear, 66, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Percell & Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with burial to follow in Siberia Cemetery. Visitation begins at noon Saturday at the funeral home.

    Phyllis Ann Casteel, 69, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with burial in Brown Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and continues at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

  • Tourism Commission presents donations

     

    1 Elizabethtown Tourism Commissioner Patrick Clark presents a $250 check to Carmen Coyle, President of the Central Kentucky Wheelman Association. The funds were used to assist in hosting the Elizabethtown Share and Road Tour, Sept. 19-20. This event created an estimated economic impact of over $15,600 for the local community.

  • Thank You from the Fraternal Order of Police

    The Fraternal Order of Police, William R. Burns Memorial Lodge No. 39, wish to extend our gratitude to those of you who supported the “Shop with A Cop” Program road block conducted in Radcliff on Nov. 14. Your generosity will ensure that 10 to 12 less fortunate children of our community will have a Merry Christmas. Remember we are accepting contributions throughout the month of November, so that we may help additional children, so please spread the word.

  • Pool graduates from Airborne School

    POOL. Pfc. Eric Pool, son of Steve and Annette Pool of Elizabethtown and a 2009 graduate of John Hardin High School, joined the Army as an enlisted infantry soldier. He graduated from Infantry Basic Training/AIT on Oct. 2. Upon completion of his One Unit Station Training, Basic/ AIT, Pool attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., and graduated Nov. 2. He is stationed with the 82nd Airborne, 508th Infantry at Fort Bragg, N.C. He will deploy to Afghanistan on Jan. 7.

  • Tiotuico students win gold ribbons

    Joel Bryan Tiotuico won the gold ribbon of superior and excellence at the Kentucky Music Teachers Association, Student Contest Festival. In audition JB performed Innocence by Fr. Burgmuller, Minuet in D minor and G minor by Petzold and Bagatelle in G by Faber.

    The competition was held at Northern Kentucky University on Oct. 17. After winning first the Central Kentucky Music Association Award in Cambellsville, then the Kentucky Music Teachers Association Award JB will be attending the National Competition in Feburary 2010 being held in New York City.

    Nan K. McMahan and Robert A. Sellin were married Oct. 18, 2008, on the front lawn of Carrick House in Lexington by Greg Alan Lackey, brother-in-law of the bride.

    The bride is the daughter of Barbara McMahan of Richmond and Charles McMahan of Paris, Ky.

    The groom is the son of the late Jack and Margaret Sellin.

    Maid of honor was Lauren Parrish McMahan, daughter of the bride. She gave her mother in marriage.

    The flower girl was Faith Wethington.

  • Daughertys to celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

     

    Kenneth and Sue Daugherty will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009, at Holiday Inn Express, 107 Buffalo Creek Drive, Elizabethtown. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.

  • Williams and Akins graduate from basic training

    AKINS. Air Force Airman Mark B. Akins graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2004 graduate of Central Hardin High School, he is the son of Mark Akins of Elizabethtown.

    WILLIAMS. Air Force Airman Darrian K. Williams graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2009 graduate of Elizabethtown High School, he is the son of LaDeana Williams of Elizabethtown.
