    30 years ago, those who attended a meeting of city and county officials concerning the garbage franchise stalemate said it was good for officials to get together but they still felt little real progress was accomplished. 20 years ago, police and patrons of a Meade County tavern were trying to figure out why a man got up from the bar and shot an Elizabethtown man once in the chest with a .357 Magnum.

    30 years ago, area residents who wanted a “real” Christmas tree were scrambling as there was expected to be a shortage of real trees; the going rate that year for freshly cut trees was $6 to $20. 20 years ago, Santa wore black leather and drove a 900-pound motorcycle as members of the Lincoln Trail Chapter of the Harley Owners Group played Santa and delivered Christmas presents to children at the Glen Dale Children’s Home.

    30 years ago, the Elizabethtown School Board approved a $3.9 million budget which included instructional salaries of $2,043,309; the school system also decided to raise the cost of lunches at all elementary schools to 55 cents, 60 cents at the high school and 75 cents for adults; this made the lunch costs the same as Hardin County Schools.

    30 years ago, Elizabethtown City Council formed a committee to oversee the $4.1 million Community Development program for Glendale Hill. 20 years ago, a Hardin County school bus driver was suspended for violating a driving policy concerning alcohol.

    30 years ago, Helping Hand announced plans to distribute Christmas baskets to more than 100 families on Dec. 23; filling each basket cost about $25, and help was needed from the community to make sure that all families in need were helped at Christmas. 20 years ago, the 1990 race for U.S. Senate was heating up; Democrat Harvey I.

    30 years ago, a Radcliff man, Henry Boyd, won more than $3,000 on a television game show, “Mind Readers;” while taping the show, he also met celebrity contestants Arte Johnson and Patty Duke Astin and host Dick Martin. 20 years ago, the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown held its annual Hollyfest, celebrating the season with Santa Claus and lots of Christmas joy and music.
