  • Churches hold animal blessing ceremonies

    ELIZABETHTOWN — They were pretty loud for a congregation at church on Sunday, but one could think they were just praising God.

    St. James Catholic Church in Elizabethtown and St. Christopher Catholic Church in Radcliff held their annual Blessing of the Animals this weekend, where community members can bring their furry family members and have them blessed with holy water.

    ‘Betty’ Ann Elizabeth (Probus) Campbell-Sims (Betty) Ann Elizabeth (Probus) Campbell-Sims, 82, of Clarkson, entered into eternal life on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009.   • E’town Catholic Class of ’59 has reunion

    The 1959 graduating class of Elizabethtown Catholic High School celebrated its 50th class runion the weekend of Aug. 28-30. On Friday, the class gathered in the Rodney Thomas Room at St. James Church in Elizabethtown, and on Saturday there was an informal catered gathering at the home of Bill Cooper in Elizabethtown. A breakfast buffet was held on Sunday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lousiville.

    MCDONALD. Air Force Airman Michael A. McDonald graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Tamara Peruzzo of Elizabethtown.   MAYBEE. Army Pvt. Kenderick Maybee has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. A 2009 graduate of Breckinridge County High School in Harned, he is the son of Fred Maybee of  Vine Grove.  

  • Garden Club gets lesson on ‘Trial Gardening’

    The Garden Club of Elizabethtown met Sept. 3 at the historic Brown-Pusey House. Members were greeted and treated to refreshments by hostesses, Jana Gore and Jan Rucker.

    Joyce Effinger, vice-chairman, gave a presentation on the Dogwood District meeting to be held Oct. 19 at the University of Louisville Alumni Club. Dr. Mark Wourms of Bernheim Forest will be the guest speaker. Registration is required.

  • Annual K of C Tootsie Roll Drive is this weekend

    The 32nd annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive will be Saturday and Sunday in Elizabethtown. Knights will be handing out Tootsie Roll candy in shopping centers and retail areas accepting contributions that will benefit mentally handicapped citizens in Hardin County.

    Tootsie Roll funds, with state and federal matching grants, are distributed through the Knights of Columbus State Association for Mentally Disabled, Inc. In 2008 the Knights collected contributions totaling $7,700 in Elizabethtown. The statewide collection totaled $153,000.

  • Parents announce birth of Addison

     

    Jeremy and Stephanie Mouldin of Upton announce the birth of a daughter, Addison McKenzie Mouldin, on July 22, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 9 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19½ inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Doretta Hornback Parker of Upton and Michael Logsdon of Flint Hill. Paternal grandparents are Norma Mouldin and William Shawn Mouldin of Elizabethtown.

    Great-grandparents are Wilma and Robert Stillwell of Upton and William Joseph Mouldin and Irene Effner of Elizabethtown.
