House candidates debate in public

ELIZABETHTOWN — The two candidates running for Kentucky’s open 2nd District U.S. House seat faced off in a debate Monday night — just hours after lawmakers failed to pass a $700 billion bailout of America’s financial institutions and the Dow plunged 778 points.

State Sen. David Boswell, D-Owensboro, said he likely would have voted against the bailout.

VINE GROVE — Visiting South Haven (Tenn.) Christian scored three times in the first quarter and its defense held on late for a 28-13 win over homestanding North Hardin Christian at J.T. Alton Middle School on Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots (6-1) led 20-0 at the end of the first quarter as they scored twice in a 2-minute span. South Haven scored on a 39-yard pass with 11:10 left in the first quarter, recovered the ensuing onside kick and scored 2 minutes later on a 20-yard pass.
