Cecilia Community Ruritan Club President Sue Hager presents the first-ever Community Service Award plaque given by the club to Sean Lewis. He was nominated by Sgt. Steve Holland for his service to his family while he was deployed overseas. 

The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown was represented at the Fourth District Summer Workshop on July 19. The workshop was held near Hodgenville at the home of Debbie Skaggs. She is the Fourth District governor. Club presidents from all 10 of the district clubs were in attendance and the theme of the workshop was “Bloom where you are planted.” Special projects were discussed, but the top project for all of the General Federated Women’s Clubs is domestic violence. Another project is USA Cares, which supports military families in their time of need.

 Dan Sundeen, program manager of Fort Knox Recycling, spoke to more than 35 members and guests of The Garden Club of Elizabethtown on August 4 at the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown. Sundeen explained the various forms of recycling products that Fort Knox is involved in. Everyone was given a pencil made from recycled blue jeans. Those interested in monthly auctions on post can visit FortKnoxMWR.com. The next Garden Club meeting is Sept. 8, when author Karen Angelucci will discuss her book, “Secrets of a Kentucky Gardener.”

Dale Stewart, left, recently presented photos scrapbooks and family genealogy material to Twylane Van Lahr, executive director at the Brown-Pusey House. The collection of material is from the estate of the late Carl Leonard, who was an avid collector of historical information, genealogy and civil war memorabilia.
