    This being Father’s Day, I want to wish each father a great day.

    As I write this, we have been enjoying some very pleasant days. But since I have to get my column written and sent by Tuesday evening, it is hard to say what we will experience the rest of the week. I have heard many times “Kentucky, if you don’t like the weather, just stick around a few days, and it will change.”

  • Cardwells celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Everett and Donna Nash Cardwell of Elizabethtown, formerly of Butler County, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 to 5 p.m. CDT, June 26, 2011, at Eva Hawes Agriculture Exposition and Community Center in Morgantown.

    They were married June 17, 1961, at Temple Hill General Baptist Church by the Rev. Ivan Phelps.

    Mr. Cardwell retired from Crucible/Crumax after 38 years.

    Mrs. Cardwell retired from First Citizens after 33 years.

  • Just grillin'

    Rows of grilled chicken crackled and browned as Glendale Lions Club members wrapped up the final minutes of preparation before their big fundraiser for the year.
    The club hosted its annual chicken barbecue Saturday. The club invited the community to the Glendale Firehouse for a chicken dinner, complete with sides and a drink. The dinner serves as the club’s main fundraiser.

    Molly White announces the birth of a brother, Daylon Thomas White, on Dec. 1, 2010. He weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Grandparents are Mark and Jackie Williams of Upton and Vernon and Vickie White of Hardyville.

    Great-grandparents are Norbert and Frances Williams of Sonora, Hubert and Janice Riggs of Clarkson and Irene Williams of Hardyville.

    Saysana Khamdaranikon and Amber Gardner announce the birth of a daughter, Addison Grace, on April 4, 2011. She weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces and was 17 inches long.

    Grandparents are Sang Sisoumankhala , Souphaly Khamdaranikorn, Donnie Hatfield, Barbara Hatfield and the late Boots Gardner.

    Taylor, Addison and Tanner Smith announce the birth of a sister, Nanalee Faith Smith, on April 13, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 10.5 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Parents are Benjamin and Stephanie Smith of Elizabethtown.

    Siblings are Taylor Cole Smith, Addison Grace Smith and Tanner Cruz Smith, all of Elizabethtown.

    Grandparents are Leah and Donna Crabtree and Steve and Suzanne Crabtree, all of Elizabethtown and Homer and Sandy Smith of Shepherdsville.
