  • Marissa announces birth of brother

     

    Marissa Bates announces the birth of a brother, Gavyn Wylie Bates, on March 22, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 18¾ inches long.

    Parents are Wesley and Laura Bates of Elizabethtown.

    Grandparents are Thomas and Linda Strickland of Vine Grove, Robert A. Bates of Morristown, Tenn., and Midred Druen of Elizabethtown.

  • KSP: Expect safety checkpoints, heavier patrol in July

    Throughout July, the Kentucky State Police will conduct safety evaluations on roadways in Hardin County and seven other counties served by Post 4.

    Troopers will set up safety checkpoints on roadways in Breckinridge, Bullitt, Grayson, Hardin, Jefferson, LaRue, Meade and Nelson counties at various times, particularly on weekends when impaired driving is at its maximum.

    The focus of the safety checks is to reduce the incidence of drug- and alcohol-impaired drivers. Officers also will emphasize the use of child safety seats and seat belts.

  • Cecilia crash victims recovering

    Staff Report

    A young family of three from Cecilia is recovering from injuries sustained Wednesday in a serious crash on St. John Road.

    Kayla Clenney and Jonathon Hart, both 20, and their 8-month-old child were southbound Wednesday afternoon in the 14000 block of St. John Road when the 1978 Ford pickup they occupied left the right side of the road, hit a tree and stopped in a creek.

    The parents, neither of whom had been wearing seat belts, were flown to a Louisville hospital with serious injuries, police said.

    Stacy Geneva Jandl and Thomas Charles Kuhn Jr., both of Radcliff, were married June 5, 2010, at Camp Carlson. A reception followed in Carlson Hall.

    The bride is the daughter of Adrian and Barbara Bambini of Radcliff. She is the mother of Henry Jandl and Scott Bambini.

    The groom is the son of Tom and Judy Kuhn Sr. and the grandson of Gertrude Hollinsead, all of Louisville. His children are Lisa Haley, Kandace Kuhn, Ross Metras, Tonya Kuhn, Bryan Kuhn and Loren Metras.

  • Pence to celebrate 85th birthday

     

    Edna Rainey Pence will celebrate her 85th birthday with a surprise reception given by her children in her honor, from 3 to 5 p.m. June 5, 2010, at the home of Mickey and Duke Edwards, 924 Clifty Church Rd., Big Clifty.

    She is the widow of Gilbert Pence, to whom she was married for more than 59 years. She retired from George H. Goodman School in Grayson County where she served as cook for many years.

    She has one son, Norman Pence; three daughters, Mickey Edwards, Judy Marchbanks and Kathy Crawford; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
