  • Hudson wins national competition

    David Hudson of Radcliff, a local hair stylist at J’s Ebony Beauty Salon in Radcliff, attended the Bronner Brothers International Hair and Beauty Show at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from Aug. 20-23. He won first place in the Most Creative Total Look category and second place in the Grab-bag competition.

    Question: Generally, are all contributions made to IRAs from pre-tax income?
    Answer: Owners of most traditional IRAs contributed to them with pre-tax income. I.E. they contributed to their IRA only when they could get a taxable income deduction for their yearly contribution. In that case, all distributions from their IRA to themselves or any of their surviving IRA beneficiaries will pay ordinary income tax on their distributions. But what if your IRA includes after-tax (or already taxed) contributions?

    The Central Hardin Bruins made it three in a row against the North Hardin Trojans.

    After the Trojans rallied to force overtime, Central Hardin held North Hardin to a field goal on its possession in overtime and senior quarterback Kevin Humphrey scored on a 1-yard run to lift the homestanding Bruins to a 27-24 victory Friday night.

    Cody Thompson put the LaRue County Hawks on his back Friday and carried them to a much-needed win.

    Thompson accounted for more than 250 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the host Hawks to a 38-24 win over the Nelson County Cardinals at Hawk Field.

  • Cardboard Nation prompts compassion for homeless

    Rocky Roberts woke up one morning to find his mother was gone. She never came back.

    The 12-year-old decided to take care of his two younger sisters. In the large city where they lived, he kept his sisters in the house to avoid the danger of gangs, which were beating up and harassing people who were homeless.

    The boy had to risk himself by sleeping outside in a box so he could hear when soup kitchens opened and to obtain food for himself and his siblings. He dove into trash receptacles and stole to provide food between soup kitchen meals.

  • Cheddar's gears up for opening

    Cheddar’s Casual Café soon will be ready for business on Elizabethtown’s north end.

    The restaurant, developed by Lexington-based Greer Cos., is expected to open its doors Sept. 26, said Lee Greer, president.

    Prior to the official launch, Greer said, there will be invitation-only training sessions, which will gauge food and service quality. Greer said the restaurant is an affordable choice with freshly prepared food options ranging from salads and burgers to steak and ribs.
