Soldier with unit coming to Knox killed in Afghanistan

FORT KNOX — An Army brigade combat team that will arrive at Fort Knox next year upon its return from Afghanistan suffered its eighth reported casualty last week. The Pentagon reported Sunday that Staff Sgt. David L. Paquet, 26, of Rising Sun, Md., died Aug. 20 at Combat Outpost Vegas, Afghanistan.

Police captain airlifted after crash

RADCLIFF — Capt. Dale Riggs of the Vine Grove Police Department was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a car crash on Joe Prather Highway. Riggs was in stable condition Tuesday evening at University Hospital in Louisville. Three others were injured in the crash, one of whom was listed as in serious condition at University Hospital as of early Tuesday night.

Blunt to join Guthrie at press conference

ELIZABETHTOWN — House Republican Whip Roy Blunt will join 2nd District candidate Brett Guthrie on the third floor of the county courthouse at 2 p.m. today for a press conference about energy policy.
