  • Boswell seeks fundraising help

    With relatively little campaign cash on hand, Democrat David Boswell has tapped a recent U.S. Senate candidate to serve as his finance chairman.

    Louisville businessman Greg Fischer said he will bring a “good feel for fundraising” to Boswell’s campaign.

  • Plane makes emergency landing in Vine Grove field

    A high wing mono plane (a two or four seat plane) made an emergency landing around 11 a.m. today in a soybean field just off Joe Prather Highway.

    Vine Grove Police Chief Steve Manning said he believed there were two passengers on the plane. There were no injuries. Manning said the pilot of the plane reported that it was running rough and had to make a quick landing. The plane was able to make a relatively smooth landing in the field.

    Paul E. Hourigan, 82, of Mount Washington, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008. The funeral is at 11:30 a.m. today at Schmid Funeral Home in Mount Washington with burial in Lebanon Junction Cemetery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

    Martha Ann ‘Marty’ Beeler

    Martha Ann “Marty” Beeler, 72, of Lebanon Junction, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    She was a native of Louisville and was the former Martha Ann Thompson. She was a former field desk clerk for Davis Brothers Travel Plaza in Lebanon Junction and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Lebanon Junction.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Lee Beeler.

  • Apartment fire may not result in charges

    UPTON – A Hart County man burned in and then blamed for an early morning apartment explosion may not face criminal charges relating to methamphetamine production and wanton endangerment as investigators initially believed.

    William Rucker, a 45-year-old truck driver living at the Murrieltown Road apartment building that exploded and burned Aug. 3, had been cooking methamphetamine in his bedroom when the explosion occurred, Kentucky State Police said.

    The anticipation. The nerves. The mental and physical preparation. And, I’m not just talking about the Olympics, though Michael Phelps certainly has helped the cause.

    During the past week, my husband has eaten a stricter diet and alternated evenings at the pool and on the tennis court with the intent of shaving off a few pounds — and subsequently seconds off his time — before a reunion with his old swim team had him lunging off the starting block in a Speedo.
