LARUE COUNTY — This year’s annual Lincoln’s Birthday Commemorative Luncheon, sponsored by Lincoln Days, returns to the basics.
In 2008 and 2009, lofty plans were made by federal agencies to celebrate the 199th and 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.
An ice storm canceled the kickoff in 2008. Another ice storm in 2009 created havoc for the entire state and forced organizers to change plans in Hodgenville. The unveiling of a new Lincoln penny was shifted from the Birthplace Park to the high school.
